Hamta pass is a famous route for trekking in Himachal Pradesh. It is situated at an altitude of about 4270 metres. It acts as the connecting link between the arid Lahaul-Spiti Valley and the lush green Kullu Valley. This trek is famous for its drastic change in the landscapes in a very short time and offers a very scenic view.

The trek begins from a place called Jobra which is situated near Manali in Himachal Pradesh and ends at Chatru, after crossing Hamta Pass. It generally takes a duration of 4 to 5 days to complete this trek. A trek of moderate difficulty, suitable for both beginners and seasoned trekkers alike, it offers a very enjoyable experience.

The best time to visit the Hamta Pass is from June to mid-October. Snow can be seen in the pass even in June. The months of September and October offer pleasant times with clear weather and stable weather conditions.

How to reach Hamta Pass from Delhi?

The journey from Delhi to Hamta Pass can be broken down into 3 steps: Delhi to Manali, Manali to Jobra, then the Hamta Pass trek.

Delhi to Manali : You can go by bus which covers the distance of 540 km in about 12 to 14 hours. There are many Volvo buses that ply from Majnu Ka Tila, ISBT Kashmiri Gate or RK Ashram Marg.

The closest railway station is Chandigarh which is situated about 310 km away from Manali. You can take a train from Delhi to Chandigarh and then go via a bus or cab from Chandigarh to Manali in about 8-10 hours.

The nearest airport to Manali is the Bhuntar Airport in Bhuntar which is about 50 km from Manali. A flight from Delhi to Bhuntar, followed by a 2 hour drive to Manali is the fastest way to travel.

Manali to Jobra: Jobra is the starting point of Hamta Trek and is situated around 18 km away from Manali. You can cover this distance with the help of a taxi or jeep provided by various trek operators. This drive generally takes 1 to 1.5 hours and is mostly included in your trekking package.

Hamta Pass Trek: From Jobra, the actual trek begins which is 4 to 5 days long and involves about 6-7 hours of walking each day.

It's best to book your slot at least 2–3 weeks During monsoon, It’s lush green but slightly risky due to rain and slippery trails. Fewer people go, so prices are slightly lower. Post-Monsoon (September–early October) is the Best weather, golden grasslands, fewer crowds, and ideal trekking conditions. Trek prices remain steady.
